Homecoming 2018 was a Grand Success

The House was Looking Good!

Thank you to about 50 Alumni Brothers, the Undergraduates and their guests and wives who attended Homecoming 2018. At the suggestion of the active Brothers, and with their assistance, the Homecoming Team held all of ΑΣΦ’s Homecoming events at the  Old Gal. This made The House and our Brotherhood the focus of our annual reunion, giving special meaning and purpose to the comradery of our Brotherhood. Without a doubt, this will be the basic model for future Homecomings. More about future Homecomings to follow.

Thursday’s set up crew enjoyed the labor of love.

Occasional showers prevented the completion of the University Cup Golf Tournament, but most who braved the weather got in about nine holes of mostly enjoyable golf. At least the company was good.

Proud Undergraduate Award winners and the 2018 sweetheart.

The active Brothers had The House in great shape for a new event in the Homecoming Schedule, the Friday 2:00 Welcome Reception, which was well attended. This flowed into our traditional Coat and Tie/Pre-Trine Touchstone Dinner appetizers, which were served banquet style in kitchen. One thing was different this year, however, the Undergraduates presented their Chapter awards in the living room during this social event. Putting these special presentations at the beginning of Homecoming seemed to give them more attention, meaning and importance.

Pre Touchstone Dinner Party

Trine’s Touchstone Dinner. It one thing to get a free dinner, it is another to receive an award for accepting it 🙂

WE WON the Trine Attendance Award at the Touchstone Dinner for the 5th straight year. Wow, this is surely an indication that no other campus organization has as strong of an alumnus following as ΑΣΦ. The Homecoming Team hopes you are as proud to be Alpha Sigs as we are. Please see the picture above of those Touchstone Dinner attendees that could be corralled before they headed back to the Old Gal with the trophy for tea and crumpets.

Saturday morning started with a hot buffet breakfast hosted by Nick Santino’s #657 Reaction Light Corp. prior to the Annual Alumni Meeting held in the living room. President Matt White #1099 ran an informative meeting. He also successfully filled all three-open positions on the Alumni BOD.
A report on the status of the House Corporation was presented by its President, Paul Ruegamer #913. Paul is stepping off the Board of Trustees at the end of the year and others are considering stepping aside. Therefore, the House Cooperation Trustees are looking for Alumni that might be interested.
Sean Bruening #1038, the new Grand Chapter Advisor, introduced his Committee and discussed their role as mentors to the Undergraduate Brothers.

The Alumni Meeting was held at The Old Gal

In what appeared to be a unanimous hand vote, the Homecoming Team was authorized to now plan GRAND HOMECOMINGS every other year, starting in 2020, as defined by the level of effort that has gone into organizing and recruiting for our annual reunions since 2012; and REGULAR HOMECOMINGS, which will be more casual reunions, every other year, starting in 2019. You will hear more about this every other year rotation of GRAND and REGULAR Homecomings in emails from the Alpha Sig website and in the Alumni Connection. The Homecoming Team brought on two new 1100 pin number members, Brandon Geopfrich #1187 and Kyle Clark #1168, to help further develop these concepts.

Lots of work not mentioned here was accomplished during this meeting and many of the discussions continued in small groups through the Saturday per- game Tailgate Party at The House.
Trine won the football game 52 to 24 against Alma College. Saturday dinner was on-your-own and many groups of close pin numbers headed for various Angola area restaurants. I hear the Trever Tritt concert was very good. I was one of the many alumni that gathered with the Undergrads at The House during and after the concert.

The House Party

The 2018 Homecoming Team has received some very nice reviews encouraging us to keep working to make ΑΣΦ Homecoming reunions enjoyable. Thanks to all who made the effort to attend, to our Homecoming Team who work all year to put on these productions and to our active Brothers who did a great job of supporting The House furniture and equipment management and for keeping The House clean during this event filled weekend.
